I wonder if, now that fandom has been displaced from LJ for so long, it would be helpful if DW updated its layouts and general aesthetic? It's great that they're working on improving image storage (which I think will be necessary for enticing fandom to migrate this way). It just strikes me that although being an LJ clone was useful back in the late 00s, there's a significant cohort of active fans for whom this platform is going to seem quaint and retro. Hell, it gives me lots of warm and fuzzy nostalgia, but I have to admit that I'm also struggling a little to get used to it again. I don't know nothin' about adapting codebases; I just question how DW can be more attractive for all the fans who don't have any memory of LJ.

I'm also so sad that I deleted my primary fandom LJ all those years ago. I have a little bit of fandom content from my personal LJ that I might also move over here eventually (mostly episode reactions from the final season of AtLA), but all of my House MD content is gone. All of my STXI stuff. My icons. (MY ICONS!!!!!) (See, like right here I would love to be able to put in emojis.) I had so many Sokka/Toph icons I made. They're definitely not on any computers or hard drives that I have any more.

It was genuinely strange to have my dashboard on Tumblr be so quiet today. I wasn't anticipating so many people to participate in the boycott. There seems to be much more emotional investment in the platform than I remember from during LJ's nonsense, but maybe I'm just being forgetful. (I'll never ever be over that one post about Tumblr being part of the "Old Internet" that was "really exemplified by geocities" and then compared the new terms of service to gentrification.)

Off to perhaps work on my profile for a little bit--I have no memory of what used to go in there. (But DW doesn't have to be just like LJ! Fandom has grown and changed since those days!)

so many of the most iconic images from 'the x-files' feature nothing more or less than mulder or scully--or mulder & scully--viewed from behind as they study something extraordinary: an event that will change them, a place with potential, a phenomenon that cannot be explained. it's such a thematically significant composition that it just about sums up the entirety of the show: the importance of searching (did you find what you were looking for? / no, but i found something i thought i'd lost: faith to keep looking); the importance of witnessing (why do you doubt yourself? / because my partner didn't see them); and the importance of facing what comes (how can i see the future if it didn't already exist? / then if the future is written, then why bother to do anything). for a brief moment we are voyeurs, watching these characters as the conspirators who threaten them do. they are outlined against the impossible, but they refuse to let it remain a nameless enigma... and that is the danger they pose.

This is my most popular post on Tumblr by several orders of magnitude. It was originally published on August 10, 2015, just a few days after I finished watching through The X-Files for the first time. As of right now, it has 7,114 notes--which is not a lot in the grand scheme of Tumblr (or even of xf fandom), but it's a lot for me. I've been on Tumblr since December of 2009 and never had more than 250 followers, so this post is my small claim to fame, crappy Netflix screencaps and all.

In the wake of Tumblr's latest failure, I'm posting over here for the first time since 2012. (On tumblr I am [tumblr.com profile] this-is-surely-tru.) I support fandom building and maintaining a blogging platform that belongs to us the same way AO3 does. I may begin copying some of my more meaningful posts from Tumblr over here in the near future, depending on how the whole tumblrpocalypse continues to shake out.

Also, looking back on blog posts about "my Netflix experience so far" from when I first subscribed to streaming platforms in the wake of megaupload's death is hilarious now.

Hi there! This is a brief note for the kind soul who has been assigned my request for [community profile] avatar_ladyfest in case they're doing any snooping. As you can see, my DW is barely used--my primary internet presence is on Tumblr, where I go by [tumblr.com profile] this-is-surely-tru. I'm not sure what might help you most, as I'm not extensively verbal over there... Poking through my "tv" and "movies" tags will give you an idea of what other narratives I enjoy... Seriously, just have fun and write what comes out. This is my first fic exchange/fest/thing, and I'm just excited to be participating!

I’m taking a break tonight after finishing Season 3 last evening to process everything, but especially Buffy/Angel, ‘cause after having a rough start, I was SOOOO on board with those two.

I know I watched these shows in reverse, but Buffy is actually reminding me a lot of John Connor in TSCC, and Buffy/Angel is echoing John/Cameron. These poor kids who are picked out by ~destiny~ to be ~chosen ones~, gang-pressed into lives of violence and loneliness. Buffy has to understand and study and spend all her free time fighting vampires, so when she meets one with a soul (one who is not even just neutral towards her, but disposed to help)… She’s going to be drawn to that. Not only does she not have to pretend in front of Angel, but he’s not a civilian, another fragile human that she’ll have to worry about constantly.

John and Buffy are so anxious, so eager to find companionship and potential good in those who should be their enemies… It breaks my heart and makes me adore them. They have to constantly listen to their loved ones telling them how screwed up they are, how they are endangering everyone else because of their relationships, and how wrong it all is. Ugh, my babies. So yeah, there are obviously no happy endings to be had here, but what a compelling pair. Perfectly teenager-y and moving and fun and deep all at once.

Also, we deserve a sequel to Buffy so much. It's totally set up to be a long-running franchise a la Star Trek or Doctor Who. One slayer dies, another replaces her. My ideal sequel would take place today, have a woc slayer, a lady watcher, and... idk what else yet. Where would it be set? Any cameos from original cast? Can we scream at the watcher guild or whatever the fuck for being English and out of touch and gross? Can we be a road show? IDK yet.

My sister has been watching through Bones for the first time and I caught these last two eps with her. Good thing I enjoy Brennan/Booth without actually being invested in them, 'cause that is some epic trolling, show.

I have commenced my own first viewing of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I'm really enjoying it so far! I was eight when the show premiered and had wayyyyy too many issues with nightmares and anxiety to watch it, but it is so so relevant to my interests and I am now correcting this terrible cultural oversight.

Shadows of the Workhouse was just as good as Call the Midwife. I dunno why I can read the books but I had to turn off the miniseries twenty minutes into the first episode. See also: Spaced and Attack the Block.

Castle was good this week! Beckett said Riiiiiiiiiick.

The biggest thing this week, though, was the fact that the Smash pilot leaked. I really enjoyed it! High production quality, lots of Broadway faces that I am very fond of, lots of ladies. This show is definitely all about the ladies, and the pilot passed the Bechdel test. The cast is less diverse than Glee, but the content is less outrageously offensive so far; I dunno that it can be called "better" with regard to -isms, but I'd like to see how it develops.

However, there was a scene with Norrington and McPhee that had strong sexual manipulation content which really turned me off. That scene was definitely the low point of the pilot. (Norrington's character in general was the low point, unfortunately.)

Still, I'll be tuning in for the first few weeks, definitely.

Beauty and the Beast*
Notorious
The Secret of Kells

My sister took me to see Beauty and the Beast in 3D as a belated Christmas gift. FAVORIIIIITE. The translation to 3D was actually gorgeous. In the scene in the dungeon, I was utterly captivated by these dust motes that were hanging in the air in the light... And of course the title song and the transformation sequences were stunning.

They didn't include "Human Again" in this release, and I hadn't even thought to check into that, but thank goodness. It's not that I hate the song itself, it's just that the original cut is paced so perfectly that I think "Human Again" messes things up a bit. It's redundant after "Be Our Guest".

In conclusion: HE GAVE HER A LIBRARY, Y'ALL.

Say Yes to the Dress (4x03*)

My Netflix experience continues to be dominated by re-watches, though I did watch North and South. The cultural displacement bits were nice, and it was of course beautifully shot and acted, but the class issues were not handled as well as I might have liked. However, the romance was surprisingly to my taste: very similar to Pride and Prejudice with its mis-communications and assumptions. I look forward to Richard Armitage in The Hobbit.

Bones this week was unexpectedly decent! Very creepy murder, cute Brennan/Booth... Nikita, though, was awesome. I finally watched the mid-season finale so I could also watch the new episode on Friday, and I loved both of them. The show is on top when Alex and Nikita are interacting, and I love the little family our rogues have going.

My friend and I watched the next Avatar episode last night because Canada is stoopid and aired it when we don't even know when we're getting it in the States.
  • HARU'S 'STACHE STILL KILLZ ME DED EVERY TIME I SEE IT. XD
  • THE TEMPLE HANGS FROM THE CLIFFS. IT'S UPSIDE DOWWWWN. Oh Air Nomads! <3
  • "The only view I'm interested in seeing is the Avatar in chains." lol bondage
  • Greg Baldwin did such a good job with Iroh in this episode! I even forgot it wasn't Mako! Which then made me sad, but it was so good. <3
  • ZUKO IS SUCH AN ADORABLE DWEEB IN THIS EPISODE. OMG.
  • "The new plan is the old plan." SO MUCH YES.
  • "Yeah, right. Like we'll ever run into Jeong Jeong again." Meaning it is now utterly destined to happen.
  • "O HAI. ZUKO HERE." I diiiiiiiiiied. I DIED. ZUKO. Impersonating Iroh. <3333 Breathing was NOT AN OPTION. I ALMOST KILLED LAPPY. Funniest thing evarrr on the show. <3 And then Zuko USES THE LINE. And Appa LICKS HIM. oh em geeeeee
  • There was NO WAY to do a "Zuko joining the gaang" episode without it being weird, uncomfortable, and awkward, so the writers ran with it instead of trying to avoid it. WHY ARE THEY SO SMART???
  • Dirty laundry is being aired! Katara had to admit to the discussion in the Catacombs. Aang had to admit to the Blue Spirit escapades.
  • SOKKAAAA. "I COULD FEEL IT! It's my throatal flap!!" Because they can't say uvula on Nickelodeon. *snicker*
  • Toph. TOPH. YES. Toph knows how it is to have a fucking horrible family, to be so betrayed by them, to willingly go against everything they say, but... they're still family, ya know?? And she's still somewhat of an outsider to the gaang. She wasn't there for the Zuko months. Of course she would be the first to trust him. <3 I want them to end up with an amazing awesome sibling relationship. Toph needs an older brother to tell her when she's being obnoxious, and Zuko deserves to see how cool having a real little sister can be. <3
  • AND THEN HE BURNS HER. And she crawls back to the temple. =[[[
  • Sokka, you know you are full of shit with the "Let Toph go play with rocks, I don't care where she is, I hate when she yells," crap. You carried her for the rest of the episode. <333 AND HIS BOOMERANG SKILLZ R LUV.
  • Sparky Sparky Boom Man esploded hisself!!!
  • Zuko is... dead? Zuko is... Indiana Jones? Zuko is... GOD?!
  • Real answer: a bloody DWEEB. "Thanks for letting me sit at the cool kids' table, you guys! WE R SO BFFS NAO." No, Zuko. You still have a lot to do to prove yourself.
  • My friend is a Zutaran. *snort*
  • I demand a bonding session between Sokka and Zuko. SHIRTLESS SWORD TRAINING AND AWKWARD GUY TALK NOW PLZ.
  • KATARA WILL FUCKING CUT A BITCH. DON'T MESS. I was actually nervous during that scene. HOSHIT.

I have to stop hanging out in capslock communities.

The rest of this season is going to be sooooo goooood. Please to not be releasing it soon, Nick. I want to make it last. =[

Epic episodes require epic recaps. (Now with theories for the rest of the show at the end, hehe, because what I say goes.)
  • Epic, kickass, amazing badass brilliance basically sums up this episode. The only thing I've seen that beats its epicness is POTC: At World's End.
  • My friend and I totally recited the entire opening narration together. NERRRRDS.
  • Aang finally admitted that he can't go into the Avatar State, and no one cares??
  • I LOVE THE REUNIONS! and the assembly of katara's harem
  • "Pants are an illusion... and so is death." XDDD
  • Haru looks like a Mexican porn star, omglolwtf.
  • Aw, Hippo and The Boulder <3 "Negatory!"
  • New glider, yay!
  • Lol, Iroh/Ming, shipship!
  • Stagefright!Sokka is so cute. When he says, "Let me start at the beginning," he really means it! "At first I didn't like Aang, but then I grew to love him..." lolol
  • "When this is finished, the Avatar will have defeated the Fire Lord, we will have control of the Fire Nation capital, and this war will be finished!" But no pressure, Aang.
  • GOOD RIDDANCE TO AANG'S HAIR! And I'm digging the new threads. (But the koalasheep was so random.)
  • So much computer animation on the submarines and tanks! I love it!
  • The Duke/Toph, shipship! Except not.
  • Whoaaaa, Jedi!mind-fuck!Iroh is love.
  • I can claim not to be a shipper till I'm blue in the face, but my friend and I squeed so loudly at the Katara/Aang scene that they probably heard us in Hulbert. I believe my friend randomly threw her arms up in the air and behind her head. XD It was so perfect. Aang is such a BAMF. Nightmares & Daydreams showed such a worst case scenario, with awkward love confessions and corny lines, but this was so great. Aang just wanted to go into the big showdown with no regrets, all his cards on the table. It was actually really sad. =[ No words needed between the two; Aang just kisses her, gives her a look that clearly says, "Why yes, I am a badass pimp," and flies off. <333
  • All that said, when you watch the ep multiple times, Katara's reaction is hard to gauge. She could just be reacting to the scary circumstances of everything, but it's also possible to interpret as pity. The tension isn't going to let up just because of this!
  • Mai and Zuko's portrait, lawwwwl. "They're too emo to go on." XD
  • Toph is 12 and gets to fight as an equal with the Earthbending troops, because she is just that badass.
  • "I want a Sokka. And I wouldn't say no to one of his dad, either." XDD
  • TEO. IN A MOTHERFUCKING TANK. FDNSJKAGL;DS
  • My prediction powers were alive and well!!! "Shut up! Every time you say something, it comes true!!!"
  • After Hakoda is injured, Katara does jack for the rest of the movie. So. lame.
  • The Sokka-warrior-badassery is unspeakably awesome. Between the warrior outfit, the meteorite sword, leading the troops... Just gah, so awesome.
  • *dramatic entrance through huge double doors* "THE AVATAR IS BACK!" *no one is there* LMFAO.
  • But I really did feel awful for Aang when he started to realize it was totes all a trap. =[
  • "Total Eclipse of the Heart", LOLLLL.
  • I can't even begin to express the level of Toph's badassery. She wins, hands down in this ep. Between seeing the entire layout of the volcano tunnels, to when she completely pwns a solid steel door, to saving Sokka's ass multiple times, Toph just wins.
  • The Tokka moments were cute, just the sort of little things that I love. Sokka going, "I am so glad that we added you to the group!", Toph's look when he touched her shoulder, how clear it was that she was always watching out for things attacking him... <3
  • AZULA CAN DIE A THOUSAND PAINFUL DEATHS, PLZKTHNX.
  • I hope Ozai and Azula have a long, violent talk about the lies she told.
  • Very interesting that Toph can be fooled about telling if people are lying.
  • Omg, I totally thought Azula had learned to Earthbend and I was like WTF?!
  • No bloodbending??? WHY???
  • Parallels between the Fire Nation and America FOR THE WIN.
  • Azula baiting Sokka about Suki was so sad. Jack DeSena once again proves himself the best voice actor in the show. But, really, we still don't know whether Suki's alive...
  • ZUKO GREW A PAIR, OMG!!! I AM SO. PROUD. Going to break out Iroh! Going to join the Avatar! Telling Ozai what a jerk he is! REDIRECTING LIGHTNING! How is it possible for everyone to be so badass at once?
  • Ozai's got some skills though, too, I must admit. It's probably a good thing Aang didn't fight him this soon. *nod*
  • The theories about Ursa killing Azulon for telling Ozai to kill Zuko were totally right!! But we don't know whether she's alive either!!!
  • "Oh, sounds like the firebending's back on." Best line of the show. XD
  • They actually made the eclipse last eight minutes. I timed it. <333
  • MIYAZAKI-STYLE FLYING MACHINES LIKE WHOAAA
  • Some people are upset we didn't see Iroh's break-out, but that badassery might have actually outshone Toph's so I'm alright with it. XD I love the random guard that cowers as Zuko runs by, lol.
  • Increased gaang with the other kids? Interesting... It'll make for weird dynamics, I'm so used to it just being Sokka, Toph, Katara and Aang. But once Zuko gets to the Western Air Temple, Jet just needs to show up and then Katara's harem will be complete.
  • Katara, why would you smile when Aang is weeping with the shame of his failure??? Ugh, I hate her. I only support Kataang for Aang's sake.
  • Zach Tyler Eisen did a nice job with Aang's ending speech, although I still can't get used to the fact that his voice is changing. o.O
  • Things are worse at the end of this ep than they were after Crossroads of Destiny, if that's even possible.
  • And it all ends with Zuko looking badass and like Jack Sparrow chasing after the gaang in a balloon he commandeered. Zomg.
  • How long is the hiatus?? Who's going to teach Aang firebending, Iroh or Zuko? Are Ursa, Suki, and Jet alive? I can't handle the suspense!!! Except this means the season is half over which is sad. =[[[
  • AND WE STILL HAVE A TWO HOUR SERIES FINALE TO GO. HOW CAN THEY TOP THE EPIC FACTOR??? I WILL DIE FROM THE AWESOMENESS.

So, we're all left in a crazy position for the rest of the show. WTF is Aang and everyone going to do? How can they get the upper hand again? What's going to happen? Only ten episodes left!!!

-Zuko will obviously show up at the Western Air Temple looking like the mighty fine pirate that he is some time very soon. Simply because we know Zuko's destination, but don't know where the heck Iroh is, I'm tempted to think that Zuko will begin training Aang in firebending. Iroh def has the better disposition for this, but Zuko will make for interesting group dynamics, and more parallels between Aang and he.

-HxC Kataangers have been gloating endlessly since DoBS was leaked weeks ago, but I have a feeling the show isn't done yanking shippers around yet. Come on now. That many potential love-interests for Katara in one place? No gloating until the entire show is over. Though it'll obv still be Kataang in the end.

-If Zuko is going to train Aang in firebending, I think Iroh's training (when he finally shows up, which he must) will be more about the spiritual aspects of being the Avatar. Like it or not, Aang really does need to get his Avatar State powers back, and I've been dying to hear more about Iroh's journey to the Spirit World since Season 1. Remember how Iroh could see Fang and Aang in the second part of Winter Solstice, even though they were in the Spirit World? Iroh will be instrumental for Aang learning more about all that.

-Having Azula and Ozai to face is ridiculous... It's too much for Aang to deal with in the timeframe of this show. Solution? Azula kills Ozai. You know she'd do it, she's completely power hungry and would kill anything that got in her way. She kills him to become Fire Lord (Lady?), and although Azula is still a formidable opponent, it's not as bad as having to get her and the Fire Lord. I think it's legitimately possible, too. The show made no bones about demonstrating that Ozai was perfectly willing to kill his son; I could see them going there are having Azula kill Ozai.

-The White Lotus Society... I honestly have no idea. Ursa could be hiding with them, but somehow I still think she's dead. Is the Society going to be more about training Aang, letting him in on secrets that he needs to know, or military help in the Final Battle? Something tells me the former, but we'll have to wait. Can Master Piandao come back, plz?

-Rescue mission to save Suki plot? Could be cool, y/n? That is, if Suki's still alive.

-What's Sparky Sparky Boom Man up to lately? I'd be disappointed if Toph's attack in The Runaway was the end of him. He's gotta show up at least once more, Zuko has to call off the hunt. SSBM could join the gaang! Orrrrr not.

-Bloodbending. I'm extremely surprised it wasn't brought up again in DoBS, as who knows if there's even going to be another full moon before the comet comes, and it would definitely be a stretch to happen to have the Final Battle at night during a full moon. The Puppetmaster can't really have just been filler, can it? If we do get more bloodbending, I say the only condition Katara would be willing to use it under is the imminent death of someone she loves: Aang, Sokka, Toph, or Hakoda. That's it.

-Dragons. We haven't ever seen a dragon in the current timeline of the show, but they were all over the Fire Nation in The Avatar and the Firelord. We kan haz Azula flying on a dragun plz???

  • Epic, epic fail. Congrats, Nightmares & Daydreams, you took the title of Least Favorite Episode away from The Swamp. How does it feel?
  • Where to even begin? First of all, Alice in Wonderland + Fantasia + massive amounts of LSD still =/= the strangeness of this epi. I'm pretty sure I would die if I watched this under the influence of anything stronger than lemonade. I tried to go along with it, really I did, but when Appa and Momo started talking, and then DUELING, I just couldn't handle it.
  • Second of all, no firebending. Boo. I was so sure I was right.
  • After such amazing depth and angst at the end of The Puppetmaster, they acted like it didn't exist! Katara was on the ground weeping at the end of that episode, with the implication that she's just been through something that will change her forever, and now everything's fine? Gawd, show us how she's dealing with it or something! The Kataang moments write themselves!
  • I hated how everyone treated Aang throughout the show (including the script writers!!). I felt like he had totally legit reasons to be petrified, and that he was really in pain trying to deal with this fear, and they just keep throwing out gags like Sigmund Freud!Sokka. I would have much rather they reacted to it with sensitivity and worry.
  • Speaking of Freud, lord was the motherly-Katara annoying! Dude, I thought we dealt with this in 307. Why are they making Katara incapable of learning anything or changing, except being all super-bender mega-girl power? She actually tucked Aang into bed at the end. *pukes*
  • So, I know enough about anime to know that the dream sequences of Aang's nightmares were very meta, but not enough to get why or in what way, so it was just distracting and obnoxious.
  • Please let Aang shave his head soon. I can't handle how floofy it is. XP
  • Oh my God, the Kataang. The process my friend and  I went through was ridiculous.
US: He's totally just daydreaming again... It's still going on, though... This couldn't be... *sit up and grab each other* OHMIGAWD, ARE THEY MAKING OUT?! IS THIS REALLY IT?!?!
AANG: *dips Katara* Baby, you're my forever girl. *daydream ends*
US: *are repulsed* Oh thank God that wasn't real.
  • My prediction skills were a bit off tonight. And I was doing so well during The Puppetmaster, too.
AANG: I am pretty sure I am losing my mind from anxiety over here.
KATARA: Since I supposedly actually care about you and all, I guess I'll try to show it. I know just the thing. Get ready to be de-stressified!
ME: ... sex?
KATARA: Yoga, you ass.

MAI: Zuko, stop angsting over the dumb meeting. Remember what happened at the last one you went to?
ZUKO: My father taught me a lesson... ON MY FACE!
MAI: Exactly, so shut up and get over not being invited to this one.
ZUKO: It's the hair. It just makes me so emo.
MAI: I know what'll make you feel better...
ME: ... sex?
MAI: Ordering the creepy, lurking slaves around!
ME: Damn.
  • We waited that long for more FN gang and that was it? Laaaaame.
  • Seriously, this episode should have been so easy to write, and it could have been so good. I get that they were going for something light and funny before heading into the invasion and all, but this was just... no. I do not approve in the least. John O'Bryan, what happened between The Headband and this?? You are on my shit list until further notice. Actually, this was a team fail. The animation was hideous, the story was awful, and even the voice-acting was off. BLAAHHH.
(Edit #3: Checked John O'Bryan out to see what other episodes are his, and apparently he's Mr. Inconsistency. He's done some of my favorites and some of my least favorites. So although it's hard to believe this crap came from the guy responsible for The Fortuneteller, The Avatar State, and The Headband, I totally believe it from the guy who gave us The King of Omashu, The Great Divide, and Avatar Day.)

Know who else is on my shit list? Viacom. The Day of Black Sun parts 1 and 2 (episodes 10 and 11) were leaked last night. Seriously, get your act together, guys. I'm so sick of having to avoid the fandom in order to avoid spoilers. I'm not even downloading the eps this time. Why, why, Viacom, must you be so inept? Why, why, fandom, must you be so spoiler-hungry? Learn something from the HP fandom: most HP fans wouldn't have touched spoilers with a twenty-mile pole. Why must you all like them so much??

Edit: Turns out Viacom didn't leak them, they were hacked into and stolen (through TurboNick, I think). I heard a rumor (unsubstantiated at the moment) that the entire rest of the show was obtained, too, and is out there. I know where to find DoBS, but haven't actually seen links to the other eps, so I'm thinking it might really be just a rumor. Nevertheless, to the hacker: you're an ass, and you make being in the fandom less fun.

Edit #2: The DoBS hack is legit, but the thing about eps 12-20 is a scam. I know at least two people that have connections to Nick but are also active in the fandom that know about this, so hopefully they can get some people in trouble, mwahaha.

  • So. much. win.
  • A Halloween episode two weeks after Halloween? *shrug* Whatevs, I'll go with it. They probably started the season later than they originally intended or something.
  • omg sokka's story-telling creepy scream XDDD
  • yes plz XD
  • fanservice oh baby
  • widdle aangy's voice is changing, awww! Seriously, it's so adorable. And yet weird.
  • So Toph can make skeleton keys from her meteorite bracelet. *going to be useful*
  • realized something: the hair-loopy bender in the flashbacks has to be kana or just some other random bender, not katara and sokka's mom. the age differences wouldn't work.
  • aww, sokka defending the moon spirit =[
  • tiny tokka moment <3
  • it's a small thing, but i love the way jack de sena growls "hamma" when the gaang finds the prisoners
  • We so totally knew bloodbending was possible. Wow, the fandom feels so vindicated right now. Years we've been saying it. Trufax. Why I didn't figure out what the episode was about just from the title is beyond me, but I did guess fairly early on where things were going.
  • homg, the day of black sun obviously includes a full moon. things are going to get crazy!
  • Hamma is so raving mad, but I think she's supposed to be seen as a sort of parallel to Jet. Both suffered horribly at the hands of the Fire Nation and are willing to do pretty much anything to get revenge. Their actions are understandable, but not endorsable. Fascinating characters, really.
  • "I'm sorry, Aang!" "It's okay!" XD
  • lol, i love the fandom. "in some nations, bloodbending is known as the imperius curse."
  • definitely the darkest episode yet. luffed it. clearly bloodbending is going to come into play again and we're going ot have awesome moments of conflicted katara
  • all in all, a very quality episode. i'm glad they went there  and were willing to make it so disturbing.

  • I was so wrong about the title for the ep. I figured "The Runaway" referred either to Iroh finally escaping prison or to Ursa. Shoulda guessed Toph.
  • I was completely fooled by the beginning of the episode. Katara is such a bitch that I honestly wouldn't have put it past her to hand over Toph. I'm glad I was wrong, but kudos to the show for actually tricking me. Well played.
  • I love that Aang uses the Southern Praying Mantis style like Toph, and that they showed he learned how to listen to the earth like she does. Mega cool.
  • "GAAAAH! SNEAK ATTACK!!" Sokka continues to have a monopoly on my heart. <3 That look that we randomly paused on was fantastic. XD
  • Toph and Katara mud-wrestling?? Are we really serious right now?
  • Why is Aang pretty much always shirtless this season?
  • fanservice.fanservice.fanservice.
  • Toph pretending to be the poor little blind girl was so funny
  • Katara, you're not at Ember Island, you can't start in with the Freudian revelations
  • omg. sparky sparky boom man. XD
  • I hate to say it, but I don't really like Hawky. Even though the name is perfect for what Sokka would name a pet hawk.
  • the blind jokes are just. so. funny.
  • I feel like the animation looked a little off in this ep...
  • Oh man, the Tokka. I have nothing to say about that. Damn age gaps.
  • sokkaaaaa <3333
  • I love that they addressed the Katara's motherly-ness thing. It's part of the reason I find Kataang so creepy, but they explained it really really well in a way I never considered, and I think I like Katara a lot more now, which was part of the point, I'm sure. Hopfully, though, Katara learns from this, and doesn't just keep up the act.
  • "You two behave. Appa's in charge." XD
  • Katara and Toph needed bendables when they were in the prison, but bemoaned a lack of metal, earth, or water. Katara was covered in gold jewelery. Gold = metal.
  • I do not approve of sweatbending. DO NOT WANT.
  • "Waterbending: Superstar style!" -Meta
  • Hopefully Combustion Man's bending is permentantly screwed up??
  • There is no. way. that Toph writing a letter to her parents ends up okay.
  • More of the fire nation gang? Pretty pwease?
  • Aang still hasn't started to learn firebending? Really? I'm going to guess he starts learning it in episode 309, "Nightmares and Daydreams". *scouts honor I haven't read spoilers* No clue who's going to teach him, though. Hey, maybe because he's only just started learning is why they utterly fail during the eclipse invasion. Not that I know the invasion fails, but please, it's in the middle of the season. Though honestly, when one bender knows three elements and the other only knows one, it should be a pretty damn easy fight.
